Throughout this course, New Media and Communications, I gained a stronger understanding of how digital platforms shape modern communication, audience engagement, and media strategy. One of the most valuable lessons covered was how new media continues to transform the way information is created, distributed, and consumed in online spaces. Learning how communication strategies must adapt across websites, social platforms, and multimedia storytelling directly supports my professional goals in journalism, public affairs, and digital media production. As someone working in strategic communication and visual storytelling, these lessons will help me better connect with audiences, strengthen messaging, and create content that is both impactful and relevant in today’s fast-moving media environment.
One assignment that significantly stretched me this term was the business planning discussion post and presentation. This assignment challenged me to think critically about how media professionals must not only create compelling content but also understand how to position that content within a digital ecosystem. A new skill I developed through this process was strategic audience analysis and online content planning. I learned how to evaluate audience behavior, define communication goals, and align content distribution with professional objectives. This skill will be highly valuable professionally as I continue developing my career in public affairs and digital journalism, where audience-centered messaging is essential.
Reflecting on how far I have come in the program, I am especially proud of my growth as a strategic communicator and professional storyteller. Since beginning this degree, I have improved my ability to communicate ideas clearly, professionally, and with intention across multiple platforms. I am also proud of maintaining strong academic discipline while balancing the demands of graduate school with my military career. This program has strengthened both my confidence and my ability to think critically about communication in the digital age, and I look forward to applying these skills to my future professional goals.
