Duncan Records Triple-Double as Central Cabarrus Defeats Phillip O. Berry

FORT KNOX, Ky.— Jahnae Duncan recorded a triple-double to lead Central Cabarrus High School girls’ basketball to a road win over Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology girls basketball on Feb. 6 at Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Duncan, a 5-foot-7 combo guard in the Class of 2026, finished with 13 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. She also added three steals and three blocks while primarily running point, helping Central Cabarrus pull away after a slow start.

“I had a slow first quarter, but after that I felt good creating shots and drawing the defense so I could kick it out,” Duncan said.

Central Cabarrus struggled early with energy and execution, missing free throws and allowing easy scoring opportunities. As the game progressed, the Vikings increased their defensive pressure, attacked the glass and began capitalizing on second-chance opportunities to shift momentum.

Duncan helped set the tone by pushing the ball into the middle of the floor and attacking the boards, forcing the defense to collapse. As Phillip O. Berry adjusted defensively, she found open teammates cutting on the weak side, creating scoring chances and helping Central Cabarrus establish control.

The Vikings also benefited from contributions off the bench, with reserve players providing energy through hustle plays and defensive effort that helped change the pace of the game. Improved communication and focus allowed Central Cabarrus to clean up mistakes from the opening quarter and maintain consistency down the stretch.

“Our energy was low at first, but once we picked it up and focused on the small things, everything changed,” Duncan said.

The win served as a confidence boost for Central Cabarrus, particularly in a road matchup against a Charlotte based opponent. The performance highlighted the team’s ability to compete with strong conference opponents when it stays disciplined and attentive to details such as free throws, defensive positioning and ball movement.

For Duncan, the game reflected her continued growth as both a leader and playmaker. Balancing scoring with facilitating offense and anchoring the defense, she made an impact on both ends of the floor, a role she continues to embrace as the season progresses.

Central Cabarrus will look to build on the performance as it prepares for upcoming conference matchups.
